Where Have I Been?

I've received numerous emails from Mitigation Journal readers and Podcast listeners "checking in" with me. I have to say its been wonderful to retire after 21 years of fire service and even more so to be at home with family and friends and without much of a schedule. Not that I've forgotten about writing the blog or recoding the podcast, no; just needed to un plug. I assure you, posting will continue with a vengeance this week! Below is an email I sent to one of my longest die-hard listeners that pulls together what I've been doing these last few weeks.

Sorry about not posting much of anything on the podcast or blog these last few weeks. Yes, it has been mostly due to all the changes surrounding retirement. Not all what you might think, however. After 25 years of working two, three, and sometimes four jobs as much as 100+ hours a week, I suddenly found myself with time to spend at home. All of a sudden I could be a husband and father like never before and I've filled days with fishing, hiking, target practice. There have been several "projects" around the house that have been waiting for about 15 years for me to get to as well!

Joanne and I are expecting our fifth child late September, our oldest daughter (18) just graduated high school and is getting ready to start college. Two of our three "little ones" also had birthdays (Ricky turned 11 and Michelle 7)...so, you can see how time has been filled and it was just the time to un-plug for a while.

With all that said, I am continuing the podcast and blog. In hindsight I should have re-issued some old material...just didn't think about it with all the excitement of retirement. I should have a podcast done this week. I have a ton of material saved up as I continued to follow events and keep notes and such. I'm sure I've lost some listeners with this little sabbatical, but its sure nice to know there are people like you out there still listening!

Would you please help me spread the word as I re-start the podcast? Thanks, and I'll be "talking" to you on Mitigation Journal this week!
